âYears ago, we made a shooting machine, because we wanted to see what the differences would be with and without a bow quiver and without human error affecting the shooting,â Velasquez says. âWe shot in excess of 400 arrows out to 40 yards, using four, six, and eight arrows in the quiver. We saw a very insignificant difference in point of impact in comparison with no quiver attached to the bow. When we went down from eight arrows to one arrow in the quiver, we did see a small, but very insignificant, point of impact change, but it wasnât enough to make any difference in a personâs ability to hit a kill zone in hunting situations.â
All quiver makers emphasize that if you hunt with a bow-attached quiver it is important that you tune your bow with the quiver attached and practice shooting that way, too. Tuning a bow without the quiver, then randomly attaching one the day before hunting season begins is a sure formula for inaccurate shooting. They also emphasize that all parts and screws must be tight, which will help dampen any noise produced at the shot.
One of the biggest advancements in bow quiver design has been the inclusion of vibration-damping materials in the quiver itself. In the old days, a bow quiver was one of the noisiest accessories added to a hunting bow. Then Mathews Archery, a leading maker of single-cam bows, included their patented harmonic damping system into their bow quivers, and vibration and noise were a thing of the past. Since then many other bow and quiver makers are adding some sort of vibration-damping material. Itâs a huge step forward.
